Private Residence | McLean, Virginia

A 15,000 SF private residence, garage and apartment. The design is based upon a traditional stone, Pennsylvania farmhouse with several additions made over the years. Each section of the house is detailed differently to reinforce the idea - variations in materials, trim and window details. The interiors draw from many of the classically derived details and elements from Winterthur, the Wilmington Estate of Henry Francis DuPont.

The ground floor is elevated on a handmade masonry plinth above flood levels. Use of antique pine floors and cypress paneling creates a warm and richly textured ambiance. The centerline of an existing avenue of juniper trees align with the guesthouse entrance.
